Paternoster:
meaning "Our Father" derives its name from the prayers of ship-wrecked Portuguese sailors. Paternoster is a small, quaint and picturesque fishing village. Famous for its abundance of crayfish.and traditional fisherman’s architecture, endless pristine sandy white beaches and whale and dolphin watching (ten months of the year) After the first spring rains fall the landscape is transformed by the millions of indigenous flowers which open and densely carpet the earth in bright bursts of colour (usually between late July and September).
Saldanha Bay:
The picturesque harbour town of Saldanha is essentially motivated by export and the fishing industry, and crayfish, fish, mussels, oysters and seaweed drive the economy. The fleet of fishing vessels that add a particular character to the bay. This largely unspoilt part of the world is also home to seagulls, cormorants, Cape gannets, duikers and terns.
A region of contrast and beauty and at times desolate, coastal region with its magnificent lagoon and numerous small fishing villages, grain and wine farms of the Swartland and Sandveld; the citrus, Rooibos and wines of the Olifantsrivier Valley; the spectacular magnificence of the scenic Cederberg and Groot Winterhoek Mountains. Migrating whales visit the coastal waters from July to December and heavyside dolphins are often sighted.

The region is also a bird watcher´s paradise as bird life abounds and travelling waders, seabirds and birds of prey are just part of the variety offered by this beautiful region of the Cape.

Bokkems

cape west coastal delicacy
Salt and Sun dried fish similar to biltong. They are slow dried in the dry sea air of the region. Bokems are a delicacy (not to everyones taste) and a rich inheritance from pioneering Seafaring South African forefathers who sun dried the small fish to preserve them for the months when their catches were bad and they could be  devoured during the months they were at sea. Smoking fish was another traditional method of preserving fish for "winter" or bad weather seasons.
